INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING:
When using electri c gardening appliances, basic safety precautions should always be
followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and serious injury. The warnings and
safety instructions in this manual must be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric
shock, or injury , and to provide reasonable safety and ef ficiency in using this unit. The
operator is responsible for fol lowi ng the war nings and instructi ons in thi s manual and on
the unit. Read the entir e inst ruct i on manual before assembling and usi ng the unit! Re-
str ict the use of this unit to persons who read, understand, and fol l ow the warnings and
instructions in this manual and on the unit. Never allow children to use this unit. Do not
allow the unit to be used as a toy. Close at t enti on is necessar y when used near children.
Always disconnect unit fr om power sour ce before ser vici ng, cleaning, perfor mi ng main-
tenance, or storing. Nonconforming replacement components or the removal of safety
devices may cause damage to the unit and possible injury to the operator or bystanders.
Use only accessories and replacement part s as recommended. Use onl y for jobs ex-
plained in this manual.
OPERATOR SAFETY
S Always wear safet y glasses or simi l ar
eyeprotectionwhenoperating,servic-
ing, or perform i ng maintenance on your
uni t. Wear ing eye prot ecti on can help to
prevent rocks or debris fr om being
blown or ri cocheting int o eyes and face
which can result in blindness or serious
injury.
S Always wear a respir ator or face mask
when working with the unit in dusty envi-
ronments.
S Dress safely in long pants. Do not go
barefoot or wear short pant s or sandals.
S Do not operat e t he unit when you are
tired, ill, upset, or if you are under the in-
fl uence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.
S Secure hair so it i s above shoulder
length. Keep loose hair, loose clothing,
fi ngers, and all other parts of t he body
away fr om openi n gs and movin g parts .
Hair, jewelry, loose clothi ng, or clothi ng
wit h loosely hanging str aps, t ies, tas-
sels, etc. , can be caught i n mo ving
parts.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING:
Avoi d a dangerous environment. To re-
duce the ri sk of ele ct ri cal shock, do not
use in r ain, in damp or wet locations, or
arou nd swimming pools, hot tubs, etc. Do
not expose to snow, rain, or water to avoid
the possibility of electrical shock. Do not
use on wet surf aces. Do not handle exten-
sion cord plug or unit wit h wet hands.
Avoi d danger ous situat i ons. Do not use in
the presence of flammable liquids or
gases to avoid creati ng a fir e or explosion
and/or causing damage to unit . Do not
abuse cor d. Never carr y the unit by the ex-
tension cord or yank extension cord to dis-
connect unit. To unplug, grasp the plug,
not the cord. Do not use cord as a handle,
close a door on cord, or pull cord around
sharp edges or corners. Turn off all con-
tr ol s bef or e unpl ugging. Do not expose
cords to heat, oil, or water. Do not use with
damaged cor d or plug. If uni t is not work-
ing as it should, has been dropped, dam-
aged, left outdoors, or dropped into water,
return it to your authorized service dealer
for repair. Unpl ug the unit from the power
source when not in use, before servicing,
cleaning, perfor mi ng mai nt enance, or
stor ing. Do not put any object int o open-
ings. Do not use with any opening
blo cked ; keep free of dust, li nt, hai r and
anything that may reduce air flow.
S Use only a voltage supply as shown on
the nameplate of the unit.
S Avoid dangerous environments. Do not
use in unventilated areas or where dust or
explosive vapors can build up.
S To reduce the risk of electrical shock, use
extension cords specifically marked as
suitable for outdoor appliances. The elec-
trical rating of the cord must not be less
than the rating of the unit. The cord must
be marked with the suffix “W”. Make sure
your extension cord is in good condition.
Inspect extension cord before use and re-
place if damaged. An undersized exten-
sion cord will cause a drop in line voltage
resulting in loss of power and overheat-
